The European Commission is considering a one-year postponement of EUDR

On 23 September 2025, the European Commissioner for the Environment announced that the European Commission is considering a one-year delay to the enter into application of the EUDR. The Regulation is currently scheduled enter into application on 30 December 2025 for large and medium-sized companies, and on 30 June 2026 for small and micro-enterprises.

If the Commission submits a formal proposal, the legislative process with the Council and Parliament will reopen, just as it did last year during the first postponement of the EUDR.

The proposal for a new delay is being justified by the Information System’s limited capacity to process the large volume of information to be uploaded by the users.

As a European project co-funded by the EU Commission, dedicated to building capacity, sharing knowledge, and raising awareness on deforestation-free supply chains, we acknowledge the regulation’s limitations and the challenges in its practical application, while strongly supporting its effective implementation. Prolonged uncertainty harms all stakeholders and is unfair to those who have invested significant resources to adapt their practices in preparation for timely compliance, sending a negative signal to the broader community.

EMMA4EU

Over the past year, EMMA4EU has produced several reports and delivered trainings to students and professionals, aiming to support both the public and private sectors in achieving deforestation-free supply chains, in line with the EUDR and other relevant regulations.

The materials we have developed are more relevant than ever. If the postponement is applied, it will provide additional time for training and preparation. We encourage everyone to stay updated and check out our upcoming training sessions and events.
