Roadmap to Commitment: a step-by-step framework for building Deforestation-Free Supply Chains

Strada_roadmap_to_commitment

The Roadmap to Commitment provides a practical, step-by-step framework to support businesses, public authorities, financial institutions, and civil society in building Deforestation-Free Supply Chains. It outlines five key steps with tailored actions, guiding questions, and case studies for each stakeholder group.

The project

The EMMA4EU project, co-funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Programme, aims to promote the implementation of the EUDR through innovative training and knowledge exchange.

Knowledge sharing is vital to this initiative. The project team has formed an alliance to connect global professionals and students, facilitating the exchange of events, articles, and discussions. EMMA4EU unites universities and researchers across Europe to create tools that help both private and public sectors implement the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and establish deforestation-free supply chains.

A deep dive into the Roadmap

The Roadmap offers a clear and actionable framework designed to help civil society, public institutions, and private sector stakeholders progress toward Deforestation-Free Supply Chains (DFSC). Acting as both a practical toolkit and a decision-making aid, it supports the development and implementation of monitoring strategies that comply with international standards and market expectations.

The Roadmap is developed starting from the 43 case studies analysed in the EMMA4EU Innovation Report on Deforestation-Free Supply Chains. It is structured across five key steps that guide stakeholders through a comprehensive process and offers, for each step, actionable, user-friendly, and audience-specific recommendations.

While designed primarily for businesses, public authorities, financial institutions, and civil society organisations involved in deforestation-free supply chains, it is also useful for students, professionals, and educational institutions (HEIs and VETs) interested in sustainability, compliance, and supply chain transformation.

Structure of the Roadmap

The Roadmap to Commitment outlines five steps to guide businesses, public authorities, civil society groups, service providers, and financial institutions through a process aimed at achieving deforestation-free supply chains. These steps include defining goals, assessing risks, developing management systems, monitoring progress, and facilitating communication. Each step provides the key actions, guiding questions, and innovation cases and tools for each profile in order to respond to specific user needs.
