Description:
The global food system is a significant contributor to emissions, land conversion, and biodiversity loss. The EAT-Lancet “planetary diet” proposes reducing the consumption of resource-intensive foods, such as meat and eggs, while increasing the global intake of vegetable oils by 67%.
But how might this impact forests?
In this CMCC Talk, Dr Maria Vincenza Chiriacò (CMCC Foundation, IAFES Division) presents findings from Global Change Biology on how growing demand for oils like soybean and palm oil could affect carbon-rich ecosystems and drive land-use emissions by 2050.
Moderated by Viviana Piermattei (CMCC Foundation, GOCO Division), the event explores key trade-offs in diet-related sustainability goals and forest conservation. Part of the 2025 Festival dello Sviluppo Sostenibile, promoted by ASviS.
